(Cistus sp.)
Cistus is a type of shrub with over 50 species and hybrids. It is a characteristic feature of Mediterranean maquis and pine and oak forests of southern Europe. It grows on dry soils and in rocky areas. It has paper, pink or purple petals that open up in the morning and fall off after dark. Several species of cistus were used in Mediterranean folk medicine and in the form of infusions.
