Pini® comp
Syrup, OTC drugSirupus Pini® compositus is a complex preparation containing codeine phosphate of antitussive effects and auxiliary substances of herbal origin: fluid pine extract and fennel tincture.
Codeine phosphate contained by the preparation inhibits central coughing reflexes, thus reducing cough intensity.
Indications for application
The syrup is used temporarily in case of dry, tiring cough occurring during upper airways infections.
How to apply Sirupus Pini® compositus
Dose the drug with the attached measure.
Administer orally – adults and children over 12 years of age – 15 ml 3 times a day.
In case of children younger than 12 years of age, apply only after consultation with a physician.
Consult a physician, if you think that effects of the drug are too strong or too weak.
In case of taking higher than recommended dose of Sirupus Pini® compositus
So far, no case of the drug overdose has been reported. In extreme cases and as a result of taking excessive doses of the drug, several times exceeding the recommended ones, nausea, vomiting, stomach aches, headaches, depression, respiratory disorders, agitation, profuse sweating and convulsions may occur. In this case, it is necessary to immediately contact a physician.
In case of taking much higher dose than recommended, it is necessary to contact a physician or a pharmacist.
In case of skipping the dose of the drug
Do not apply a double dose in order to supplement the omitted one.
Before you apply Sirupus Pini® compositus
Do not apply Sirupus Pini® compositus
During acute attack of bronchial asthma, in case of acute respiratory insufficiency, pulmonary emphysema and hypersensitivity to any of the preparation components. Do not apply in case of chronic constipations.
It is not recommended to apply in case of respiratory system diseases with accompanying retention of thick secretion inside bronchial tree and difficulties with expectoration.
Long-term application of the drug may lead to drug dependence. For this reason, it is not recommended to administer it for a period longer than 7 days or to exceed the recommended doses.
Application of Sirupus Pini® compositus in children
It is not recommended to administer to children younger than 6 years of age. In case of children of 6-12 years of age, only a physician can decide to apply the drug.
Pregnancy
Do not apply the drug during pregnancy.
Breast feeding
Do not apply the drug during breast feeding.
Driving of vehicles and operation of moving mechanisms
The drug may cause impairment of psychophysical aptitude and for this reason, patients during therapy should not drive vehicles and operate moving mechanisms.
Important information concerning some components of Sirupus Pini® compositus
The product contains about 12 g of saccharose in 15 ml. This should be taken into consideration in case of diabetic patients. Patients with diagnosed intolerance of certain sugars should consult a physician before taking the drug.
The medical product contains up to 5.0 % m/m of ethanol (alcohol), which is up to 975 mg of alcohol in a single dose of 15 ml. Because of ethanol content, the syrup should not be applied in individuals with alcoholism and in patients with liver diseases or epilepsy. Codeine phosphate may intensify depressive effects on central nervous system of some anti-depressive drugs (of benzodiazepine group), sleep-inducing drugs (barbituric acid derivatives) and neuroleptics. It may intensify effects of other opioid drugs on respiratory center and the effects of ethanol. Glutetimide applied simultaneously with codeine may cause euphoric states.
Codeine may also interact with MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidases), anti-histamine drugs and drugs reducing arterial blood pressure.
It is necessary to consult a physician in case of use of any of the above mentioned drugs or in case of doubts.
Use of other drugs
Sedatives and sleep-inducing drugs intensify codeine phosphate effects.
Possible undesired effects
Usually no undesired effects are observed. However, after application of the product containing codeine the following undesired effects may occur: nausea, vomiting, constipations, dryness in the mouth, sleep disorders and allergic reactions, e.g. dermal lesions.
In case of undesired effects, it is necessary to inform a physician.
Storage of Sirupus Pini® compositus
Store at the temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Store out of reach and sight of children.
Do not use the drug after expiry date stated on the package.

Active substances:
Pini extractum fluidum (fluid pine extract) (1:1) – 6.6 g
[Extractant: ethanol 90% (v/v)]
Foeniculi tinctura (Fennel fruit tincture) (4.5-5:1) – 1.0g
[Extractant: ethanol 70% (v/v)]
Codeini phosphas hemihydricus (hemihydrous codeine phosphate) – 0.05 g
Auxiliary substances:
Saccharose, purified water, calcium lactate, phosphoric acid.
Product strength: 420.0 mg + 64.0 mg + 3.2 mg/5 ml
The syrup contains not more than 5 % m/m of ethanol.
