  • It comes from the Solanaceae family of plants.

  • Phytotherapy uses belladonna leaves – Belladonnae Folium, belladonna herb – Belladonnae Herba and belladonna root – Belladonnae Radix.
  • Main active ingredients of leaves and herb are tropane alkaloids (atropine, hyoscyamine), coumarins (scopolamine and scopoletin) and flawonoids. Belladonna root contains tropane alkaloids and coumarins.
  • It has a diastolic action.
