Hederasal®

syrup, OTC drug

The syrup of Hederasal® contains dry extract of ivy leaves (Hederae helicis folii extractum siccum) of expectorant effects and relaxing smooth muscle of bronchi. The preparation is applied as an expectorant agent and for density reduction of thick secretion blocking throat, larynx and bronchi.

The syrup of Hederasal® is applied in case of cough, especially with difficult expectoration of thick secretion and as an auxiliary agent in inflammations of the upper airways and bronchi.

How to apply Hederasal®

Administer the drug of Hederasal® orally
Children of 2 – 5 years of age usually take ½ tea spoon 2-3 times a day.
Children of 6 – 11 years of age, 1 tea spoon 2 times a day.
Adults and adolescentes of 12 years of age – 1 tea spoon 3 to 4 times a day.

Administration method: take the syrup undiluted and wash down with water.

In case of taking higher than recommended dose of Hederasal®
Do not exceed the recommended doses since this may result in irritations of stomach and intestines, vomiting and diarrheas.

In case of taking higher than recommended dose of the drug and appearance of undesired effects, it is necessary to consult a physician.
In case of skipping the dose of Hederasal®
Continue treatment. Do not apply a double dose in order to supplement the omitted one.
The following may occur after discontinuation of treatment with Hederasal®:
Discontinuation of treatment with Hederasal® syrup may result in intensification of expectoration of thick secretion blocking throat, larynx and bronchi. Duration of treatment depends on the kind and clinical picture of the disease and should not last shorter than a week. If the symptoms do not withdraw or intensify during treatment, it is necessary to consult a physician.

Before you apply Hederasal®

Do not apply Hederasal®:
In case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any auxiliary substance.

Observe special care in case of some specific groups using the drug
Indications for diabetics: the medical product does not contain saccharose. It can be used by diabetics. 1 tea spoon (5 ml = 6.2 g) of the syrup contains 3.36 g of D-sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.28 of bread units (BE ).

Pregnancy and breast feeding
No controlled clinical trials have been conducted in pregnant and breast feeding women and for this reason the drug can be applied after physician’s consultation.

Driving of vehicles and operation of moving mechanisms
No impairment of psychophysical aptitude by the preparation has been fund.

Use of other drugs
No known interactions with other drugs.

Possible undesired effects

As every drug, Hederasal® may cause undesired effects.
In case of sensitive patients, these include irritations of stomach and intestines, vomiting and diarrheas.
If any of the above mentioned symptoms appear, immediately discontinue treatment and consult a physician.

Storage of Hederasal®

Store at the temperature not exceeding 25°C.

Store out of reach and sight of children.

Do not use the drug after expiry date stated on the package.

Composition

100 g of syrup contain:

Active substance:
Dry extract if ivy leaf
(Hederae helicis folii extractum siccum, DER 4-8: 1) – 430.55 mg
[extractant: ethanol 30% m/m]

Auxiliary substance:
potassium sorbite, anise oil, propylene glycol, sorbitol 70 %, purified water

The product does not contain saccharose. It can be used by diabetics.

Packaging contains: 125 g of syrup.
