Lime is a well-known tree, often planted along roads, in parks and public squares. In the old days lime tree has been a sacred tree of the Slavs. Even now roadside shrines are commonly placed on lime trees. Medicine uses inflorescence of lime, commonly, but mistakenly referred to lime flowers.
Inflorescence of lime tree, administered internally, provides relief in so-called “common cold”, especially with fever, in tonsillitis, flu and throat or bronchi inflammations. Sometimes it is used in relieving nervous tensions and vegetative neuroses, especially deriving from the action of digestive organs. Moreover, it lowers blood pressure and is helpful in atherosclerosis and coronary diseases. Herbapol Wrocław uses it as an antipyretic, diaphoretic and anti-inflammatory ingredient of Pyrosal syrup.
